    • Obituary: 15 Jun 2001; Anthony Ambo, 87, harness racer, Hall of Fame member PORTER CORNERS -Private services will be held for Anthony S. Ambo, 87, of Holmes Road, who died Wednesday at Saratoga Hospital after a long illness. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Mr. Ambo lived in the local area for more than 60 years. Mr. Ambo lived in Porter Corners for the past 23 years. He and his wife operated a farm in Greenfield where Mr. Ambo trained standardbred horses. He was a trainer and driver at the Saratoga Raceway and drove at several other tracks in New England. Mr. Ambo was elected to the Harness Hall of Fame in June of 1996. Mr. Ambo was a member of the Old Timers Club, Harness Horsemen's Association and the Edinburg Beagle Hare Club of Edinburg. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Eleanor Ambo; two brothers, Edward and Leon Ambo, both of Massachusetts; three sisters, Veronica Melnick, Stacia Maleski and Elizabeth Ambo, all of Greenfield. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at a later date in Bernardston, Mass. Arrangements are by the Bussing & Cuniff Funeral Home, Saratoga Springs. Published by the Daily Gazette, 15 June 2001
