  According to his obituary "He began farming at the age of six when his parents purchased the Wheeler Avenue farm. He produced maple syrup for more than 60 years. In recent years he expanded the sugarhouse, purchased new equipment and produced a wide variety of maple products. He also operated a dairy farm until 1992 and had since raised heifers on the farm. A member of the Massachusetts Maple Producers Association and Vermont Maple Producers, he was known throughout New England for his expertise in maple production. In conjunction with his farm he sold cordwood, hay, and for many years, had a snow plowing service."
