     Detroit Grant Hood was born on 9 May 1921 at Athol, Massachusetts.2 He was the son of Erwin Hood and Doris Mary Shepardson.1,2 He served during World War II. On 16 November 1946 at West Rindge, New Hampshire, Detroit married Anna Taylor, daughter of Joseph Taylor and Abbey unknown.1,3 According to his obituary, "Mr. Hood was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He served at and survived Iwo Jima and was awarded the Bronze Star. Following the war he served with the Civilian Conservation Corps at the camp in Carroll. He was a member of the John Humiston American Legion Post #11 of Jaffrey. In 2004 he was honored as honorary parade marshal of the annual Memorial Day parade in Rindge. Mr. Hood’s first employment was for Archie Coll Sr. and Coll’s Poultry Farm in Jaffrey. He had also worked at the Convair Aircraft Co. in California, Starrett Machine and Tool in Athol, Mass; and was part owner (with his father-in-law) of the West Rindge Basket Shop. He had also worked for Seppala & Aho Construction Co. and had retired from the maintenance department at Franklin Pierce College.Mr. Hood had an avid interest in antique cars and was a member of the Monadnock Oldies Car Club. For 35 years he was trailmaster of the Monadnock Sno-Moles, and also was an honorary member of the club. He was a contributor to the Rindge Historical Society’s museum. For several years he taught hunter safety as well as ATV safety courses because he felt so strongly that safety was the main issue, no matter what a person did. For many years he volunteered his time as custodian at the West Rindge Methodist Church.2" Detroit Grant Hood died on Thursday, 14 December 2006 at Rindge, New Hampshire, at age 85 years, 7 months and 5 days.2
