     Robert Elmer Whitney was born on 26 June 1915 at Richmond, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of Glenn Elmer Whitney and Eleanor F. Roberts.1 Robert Elmer Whitney graduated in 1933 from Orange High School.1 In 1942, with his brother, Richard, he founded Whit's Diner.1 On 2 October 1942 at Athol, Massachusetts, Robert married Alice Margaret Warner, daughter of Edward Aiken Warner and Margaret C. McNamara.2 During World War II, he was a T/4 in the Army serving at Fort Lewis, Washington. Robert Elmer Whitney retired in 1973 from running Whit's Diner.1 According to his obituary, "In his years of retirement Robert enjoyed buying, restoring and selling antiques, listening to music, walking and traveling. He also was a member of the Orange American Legion Post 172, the former VFW and an active member of the Peter Delvee Family Association."1 He died on Thursday, 20 April 2006 at Orange, Massachusetts, at age 90 years, 9 months and 25 days.1
