Stephen Charles Ballou

     Stephen Charles Ballou was also known as Stephen Charles Hoffman. He was born on 13 January 1889 at Wendell, Massachusetts.^3,1,2 He was the son of William Herbert Ballou and Maude Nellie Stiles.^1,2 On 10 November 1909 Stephen married Jennie Elizabeth Rickey, daughter of Joseph Edward Rickey and Clara Swan Wilkinson.¹ Stephen Charles Ballou and Jennie Elizabeth Rickey were divorced. According to Betty-Sue Pratt (1997), "He had numerous marriages but except for the children of is 1st wife, I am not sure of the names or numbers of others. We do know of a branch in Texas but he used an alias at that time. Found out it is Leo Desmoraux." From Naomi Sturtevant (2000) we learn that he used the last name of "Hoffman" in Texas, and that his two children down there have that name, not Ballou.^1,4 Stephen Charles Ballou was ill with a stroke in 1965.¹ He died on Friday, 16 September 1966 at Dinsmore, Duval County, Florida, at age 77 years, 8 months and 3 days of a cerebral hemorrhage.^3,1,5 Stephen was buried at Edgewood Cemetery, Dinsmore, Duval County, Florida.¹
