Gertrude DeLaney was born on 15 June 1892. She was the daughter of Fred A. Morse and Mary Bell Putnam. Her birth name was Eva Lucinda Morse After the death of her mother, Eva was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. James DeLaney and her name was changed to "Gertrude DeLaney." On 12 June 1918 Gertrude married Louis Martin Potts. The death of her son during World War II, placed such a strain on her, that in October 1948, she was admitted to the Brattleboro Retreat, a mental institution. On 26 August 1949, she was transfered to Northampton State Hospital.1 Gertrude DeLaney died on Monday, 25 June 1951 at Northampton State Hospital, Northampton, Massachusetts, at age 59 years and 10 days.1 Gertrude was buried at Center Cemetery, Northampton, Massachusetts.1
