John Carter Delvy was born on 17 March 1836 at Gill, Massachusetts.2,3,4,5 He was the son of Peter Delvy and Ruth Carter.1,2,3,4 On 26 March 1856 John married Mary Sophia Munn, daughter of Lorenzo Patrick Munn and Ruth Severance.3,4,5 John Carter Delvy appeared on the US Census of 1860 at Warwick, Massachusetts.6 He enlisted 1 October 1861 with Company C, 27th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteers, serving under General Burnside at Roanoke Island and New Bern, North Carolina. There, he was wounded 14 March 1862. He mustered out 27 March 1863.7 He was a the second ferryman on Munn's Ferry in Gill, having taken over from his wife's grandfather in 1864.7 He died on Thursday, 3 March 1910 at Gill, Massachusetts, at age 73 years, 11 months and 14 days.3,5,8
