His wife of 33 years, Joan P. (Fairhurst) Nelson, died in 1994. He leaves a son, David P. Nelson Jr. of Worcester; three daughters, Kim R. Teixeira of South Grafton, Gayle P. Bouvier of Shrewsbury and Darlyn J. Kiley of Littleton; two brothers, Roland Nelson of Sterling and Russell Nelson of Millbury; two sisters, Judith Nelson of Worcester and Ruth Ghosn of Mossyrock, Wash.; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews. His stepparents, Esley and Mary Hendrickson, who raised him, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Roland and Ruth (Lawless) Nelson. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School. Mr. Nelson worked 31 years at Norton Co., retiring in 1994. He then worked at the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. He was also a bartender for 35 years at the Anchor Lounge and Wayside Cafe. He was a member of Lakeview Congregational Church. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, in Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 9 Hammond St., Worcester (www.faybrothers.com). Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Children's Friend, 21 Cedar St., Worcester, MA 01609; or to Lakeview Congregational Church, 115 Coburn Ave., Worcester, MA 01604."
