She earned her RN from Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of nursing, Boston, MA and later a Baccalaureate in Nursing from the University of Hartford and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Saint Joseph College, West Hartford, CT. She studied Enterostomal Therapy or Ostomy Care at Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo New York. Her nursing career was varied: in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and home care. For the last twenty five years of working, she specialized in Ostomy and Wound Care Nursing. She was a certified member of the Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing Society (WOCN) of the United Sates and of the World Council of Enterostomal Therapy Nurses. (WCET). Joyce and Ray enjoyed traveling to many states in the USA and to Canada, Mexico, South Africa, France, England, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, and Singapore for pleasure and to attend professional nurse conferences. She also made several vacation trips with sons and grandchildren, brothers and other family. She went to EI Salvador three times with a group of Eye Doctors and Dentists as an assistant in the Site and Bite Clinics they provided for people in two small towns. She also went to EI Salvador with another group to visits schools and families at home. Since retiring she has enjoyed swimming, gardening, and learning to quilt. She was an active volunteer with many Farmington, groups, First Church Congregational 1652, the Friends of the Libraries, Library Board, Land Trust, Food Pantry, and the American Red Cross."
