• History: 2015; His obituary reads: "Robert "Bob" Haight, 94, of East Longmeadow, MA, devoted husband of Avis (Wands) Haight for 66 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Johnson Memorial Hospital. Bob was born on February 22, 1921 in Amsterdam, NY, son of the late Louis and Dorothea (Schwem) Haight. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Bob was employed at the former Hamilton Standard Div. of U.T.C. for 47 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Somers Congregational Church, a member of the Composite Lodge #28 for 68 years and served as Past Master of the lodge in 1956. He enjoyed reading, traveling and was an avid Red Sox and UCONN Women's Basketball fan. Besides his devoted wife Avis, since July 31, 1948, he is survived by his children, Susan Hall and her husband Chris of Longmeadow and Wilbraham, MA, Robert Haight Jr. and his wife Karen of Enfield, CT, Donald Haight and his wife Susan of Somers, CT, Janet Bennett-Roberg and her husband Patrick Roberg of Somers, CT ; seven grandchildren, Christopher Hall and his wife Jessica Hammer, Courtney Hall, Erin Haight, Alissa Haight-Aguda and her husband Louis Aguda, Michael Haight, Kayla and Ian Bennett; and one new great-grandchild, Ada Hammer-Hall. Bob is predeceased by two brothers, Frederick and Warren Haight. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Thursday, April 9th from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main Street, Somers, CT. Family and friends will gather at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2015 at the funeral home for services. Interment will be at Enfield Street Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Johnson Memorial Hospital Development Fund, 201 Chestnut Hill Rd, Stafford Springs, CT 06076."
