Text Ronald John Bach departed his life on earth on Friday, August 20, 2021, at his home in Huddleston, Va. His wife Marilyn was by his side. Ron was 87. He was born on October 1, 1933, to Florence Marie Bascom Bach and John Joseph Bach in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

He attended St. Lawrence University in Upstate N.Y., where he majored in psychology. He was in ROTC and a member of ATO fraternity. He graduated in 1955. Following college, he enlisted in the Army to serve in the Military Police and became a captain. He completed his service at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Ga.

Ron began his 36 year career with GE in Utica, N.Y. in 1956. Shortly after, he accepted a position with GE Daytona Beach, to recruit engineers for NASA and the Apollo Space Program. He continued in various capacities in that area for eight years before moving to Pennsylvania. Ron then moved up the east coast to Upstate NY and to GE Corporate headquarters in Fairfield, Conn. He ended his career in GE's Industrial Sector as human resource manager for the sales divisions and manager of the Technical Marketing Program (his favorite), where he recruited graduating engineers and put them through a two-year training program to learn the GE culture and products. He was a member of the GE Elfun Society.

Ron enjoyed his retirement on Smith Mountain Lake for 23 years and lived life to its fullest. He enjoyed golf, boating and reading. He was active politically, was a true patriot, and firmly believed in the values of the Republican Party.

He was fun-loving and brutally honest. You never had to wonder what he was thinking. Some even considered that an endearing quality.

In addition to Marilyn, his wife of 41 years, he is survived by three daughters, Karen Popple, Lynne Rourke and Martha Devine (Jeff); six grandchildren, Ben (Deanna) , Reid (Lola), Veronica, Colleen, Brendan and Andrew (Cassie) and two great-grandchildren, Landon and Thomas. Last, but not least, he is survived by his loving "little girl", Sarah (a 20 lb. calico cat.)

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021, in the Tharp Funeral Home Chapel, 320 N. Bridge St. in Bedford. Livestreaming of the service will be available at tharpfueralhome.com. Lunch will follow at The Landing Restaurant, The Pointe at Mariners Landing in Huddleston.
